Lisa’s journey to MePACS

When Lisa joined MePACS nearly four years ago, she was embarking on a whole new journey in the public health sector. After a decade in admin and accounts for a gymnastics program in Rosebud Victoria, a close friend suggested MePACS might be a good fit.

Reading the job description, Lisa thought, “What a wonderful opportunity to shift my focus from looking after little ones to supporting older Australians.” It was a leap, but one she embraced wholeheartedly. “I’d never done anything like it before,” Lisa says. “But I was ready for the challenge and I loved the training. Now, I get to make a real difference in people’s lives.”

A steady voice, day or night

Lisa’s role, firstly as a monitor, and now as a relief team leader puts her at the heart of MePACS’ mission: providing peace of mind and real-time support to clients in need of help. “Our clients range from younger people to incredible women in their hundreds,” she says. “One of our ladies is 104 and still goes to the hairdresser! They press their pendant just to say hello or test it, and it never fails to amaze me how vibrant and appreciative they are.”

Sometimes, alarm activations happen in the middle of the night, which can be confusing for clients. “It might be a mistaken button press at 4am, and my voice comes through the alarm," explains Lisa. "They’re just so grateful someone’s there. It’s humbling.”

Leading with calm and care

As a relief team leader, Lisa steps in to support the team whenever needed—scheduling shifts, compiling reports, mentoring monitors, and handling escalations. “You’re the steady hand during the shift,” she explains. “If the tech goes down or a client needs extra support, you’re there to guide the team and reassure everyone.”

She recalls a recent emergency when the phones unexpectedly went down at 3am. “We switched to backup systems, moved desks, and kept answering calls. It happened again later that morning but we were ready. We have backup procedures, so our clients can trust that we will always be there.”

"Working for MePACS is a very rewarding job and I look forward to coming to work. I am an advocate for MePACS and you can often overhear me telling people about our services and how MePACS is one of the supports to enable people to stay in their own homes for longer."
says Lisa with pride.

Life outside the office

When she’s not at MePACS, Lisa and her husband love exploring the coast on their old bus. When they're not travelling, she keeps busy tending to her small farm on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. “There’s always something to do—feeding horses, mowing, harrowing paddocks," she says. Her 29-year-old mountain pony, Vanessa, is part of the family and occasionally pokes her head into the kitchen for apples. There's also Fizz —a 17-year-old Jack Russell, and her daughter’s Great Dane, who's often comes to visit.

Lisa also stays active by swimming in the bay with a friend a few times a week, even in winter! "It’s the most wonderful thing,” she laughs.

Lights, camera, MePACS

If you're wondering why Lisa looks familiar, it's because she participated in our MePACS TV commercial. “When the email came around, I jumped at the chance. It’s such a great service so I wanted to help spread the word. The day felt like a movie set, and now I keep getting texts from friends saying, ‘I saw you on TV!’ I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”

Lisa’s story is a beautiful example of how care, connection and courage can take us places we never expected and make a lasting difference along the way.
It's also a reminder that behind every call is a dedicated person that makes MePACS more than just a service.
