Support at Home Personal Alarms
On 1 November 2025, the Federal Government replaced Home Care Packages with the Support at Home program, to enable older Australians to continue to live independently at home.
Support at Home includes the Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) Scheme, which can be used to fund MePACS personal alarms.

FUNDING
Are Support at Home alarms free?
Funding for MePACS monitored personal alarms is available through the Support at Home AT-HM Scheme for eligible participants. Your care coordinator can advise whether your funding covers the full cost of your choice of alarm, and will help to organise the alarm through MePACS.

Not eligible or waiting for Support at Home?
You do not need Support at Home funding or an aged care assessment to access our service. If you are waiting on funding or assessment, or are not eligible, please contact us to discuss the other ways you can fund a MePACS monitored personal alarm.
This may include the NDIS, Personal Alert Victoria (PAV), Personal Alert AssistanceSA (PAASA) or funding it yourself.

What are the key changes?
More support levels
Support at Home offers more funding levels than Home Care Packages, allowing for greater flexibility and tailored support for complex needs.
Dedicated funding for assistive technology
The new Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) Scheme provides upfront, annual funding for supports such as personal alarms. This funding is separate from your support services budget.

Changes for current Home Care Package (HCP) recipients
Your Home Care Package will automatically transition to the new Support at Home program at the same funding level as your HCP.
If you have a MePACS alarm, it will automatically transition to Support at Home with no changes to your service.
If you have been approved for a Home Care Package but are still on the waitlist, you will maintain your spot on the national registry.
If you have unspent HCP funds, you can use these for a personal alarm. Speak to your provider about your eligibility for this.
Process
Getting a personal alarm through Support at Home
If you don't already have Support at Home funding, the first step is an Aged Care assessment to determine what level of support you need to help you live safely and independently at home.
If you already have Support at Home funding, or unspent HCP funds, you can skip to Step 3.

Apply for an assessment
You can apply online or call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422. During your assessment, they will review your need for AT-HM Scheme funding.
Choose your provider
You will be advised of your Support at Home tier and AT-HM allowance. Choose a provider to help coordinate your support services, including your alarm.
Get a prescription
A written recommendation (sometimes referred to as a presrciption) is required to use your AT funds for a personal alarm. A qualified health professional, such as your GP or OT, is able to provide this for you.
Order your alarm
Once you have a prescription, your care coordinator can order your alarm directly from MePACS.
We will then liaise with you to complete your alarm installation / activation.
