MePACS client Jean recalls a terrifying incident that changed everything.
She was putting her rubbish bin out when a gale-force wind blew a board in her path and she was knocked to the ground.
“I went flying, and my head connected with the gate frame. I was trapped in the dark out in the yard. No one heard me calling for help,” she explains.
Despite the shock and terror of being alone and injured, MePACS swiftly became Jean’s reassuring lifeline.
“I pressed my MePACS alarm. They came straight through and I said, ‘I need an ambulance’.”
Even though the ambulance had to travel nearly 150 kilometres, taking over two and a half hours to arrive, Jean found immense comfort in the care and support from MePACS.
“MePACS rang every 20 minutes to make sure I was okay because I was on my own,” she recalls.
This caring reassurance ensured that even during one of the most frightening moments of her life, Jean never felt truly isolated.
Jean now has a MePACS mobile alarm, in addition to her MePACS home alarm, and walks with newfound confidence.
“I walk unafraid now in life because of my little black box. It's magic,” she says.
The MePACS mobile alarm works anywhere in Australia with good mobile reception, which is great for Jean as she works outdoors in her local community.
Jean describes her MePACS mobile alarm as a lifeline, something she considers “better than diamonds because it is a diamond in my life,” giving her the certainty that help is always within reach.
Reclaiming independence and peace of mind
A significant part of Jean's peace of mind comes from her daily routine with MePACS.
“I do my daily call with MePACS and press the button on my home alarm every morning. If I forget, and I've done it a few times, I get texts - 'Are you okay? Have you forgotten to press your alarm?"
Jean’s loved ones also enjoy increased peace of mind thanks to the MePACS monitored personal alarm service.
“They think it's fantastic because it takes the worry off their shoulders of having to keep tabs on me. They no longer have to think, ‘Is mum okay today?’ Because they know if mum's not okay, the MePACS alarm will know,” she explains.
“For someone who has lived alone for more than 30 years, this support truly means everything.”
“Worth its weight in gold.”
The MePACS monitored personal alarm service offers Jean essential support, reinforcing her sense of independence and confidence.
“My MePACS monitored personal alarm is around my neck 24 hours a day. I know if I fall again, I've got help at my fingertips,” she smiles.
In her own words, Jean’s MePACS mobile alarm is “worth its weight in gold.”
“I fly through life now, not scared anymore, not afraid.”
