Wangaratta local finds security with MePACS

For our client Beverly, who lives in Wangaratta—about three hours north‑east of Melbourne—living alone doesn’t have to mean feeling vulnerable. After losing her husband in 2008, Beverly began to think about her safety and wellbeing now that she was on her own.
"I had a fall, I got up and I was fine. I thought about it – one day I might just have another fall and I might not be able to get up, so I thought it would be a good idea to have an alarm system," she said.
Getting help after a fall
Since joining MePACS, Beverly has unfortunately needed to use her MePACS alarm twice, both times after falling in her beloved garden.
The first fall happened as she was tending to her garden and is started to rain.
"I thought I’d better stop and go inside. I stepped backwards and as I turned around to walk away, I lost my balance," she said. "I went down on my hands and knees and jarred my shoulders." Her knees were very sore and she simply couldn’t get up. MePACS immediately contacted her son, who came to help, as well as emergency services, and Beverly was taken to hospital for care.
The second fall occurred when she was heading over to turn off the hose and slipped on the garden edging. She suffered extensive bruising down her right side—ribs, shoulder and knee—and again found herself unable to stand.
"I had the alarm, pressed the button and that’s how I got help," said Beverly.
MePACS contacted her son, who happened to be out of town, but he quickly reached out to his brother, who arrived within about 20 minutes and helped Beverly recover.
Peace of Mind with MePACS
Having lived in her home for more than 50 years, Beverly loves spending time in her spacious garden and enjoys reading, tapestry, embroidery, and crocheting. She’s also quite tech‑savvy, using her computer to stay connected with family in New Zealand and play games like mahjong and patience. She loves keeping busy and is grateful that she can continue doing the things that bring her joy.
For Beverly, the greatest advantage of MePACS is the sense of comfort and security it brings. For her family, it’s a true source of reassurance knowing support is available to Beverly at the press of a button.
“I feel safe knowing I can contact someone if I can’t get to a phone. Even if I slip in the kitchen, I know help is available."
Encouraging others to stay safe
Beverly knows firsthand the benefits of MePACS and would love to see more seniors take advantage of it. For her, the relief goes far beyond falls—it eases the worries that can come from living alone and unexpected situations.
“It’s not just for falls. It’s peace of mind for any emergency. I’d recommend it to anyone living alone.”
